Modern Teamwear Solutions for Netball Clubs in the Hunter Region
Date Posted:23 December 2024
Australians are definitely known for our love of sport, and the Hunter region is no exception to this. From the passion we have for our mighty Newcastle Knights to the love we have for early morning runs at Merewether Beach, there's a love of sport and fitness in our veins.
One sport that is played by many but often goes overlooked is netball! Played predominantly by women and girls (although there is growth in the number of guys giving it a go!), last year Netball NSW had 115,000 members, so there’s loads of players out there, including here in the Hunter.
In the region, we have outdoor netball facilities in Charlestown, Kotara South, Belmont, Newcastle, Warners Bay, Cessnock, Singleton, Maitland, and more, as well as countless indoor netball facilities that are utilised by many year-round.
How Netball Uniforms Have Evolved Over Time
When it comes to netball teamwear, each club shows their pride in playing in their own club colours in high-performance gear, but that wasn’t always the case! During the sport's early days in the 1890s, netball uniforms were hugely different from the form-fitting stretch dresses the game is known for today. Players generally wore ankle-length skirts, tunics, and blouses, which were more in line with the fashions of the era. Unfortunately, these heavy and restrictive garments limited players' agility and movement on the court, meaning players probably weren’t able to play to their best ability.
To meet the needs of contemporary athletes, netball uniforms changed throughout the twenty-first century. While players still wear dresses or skirts, they started to be made from high-performance, breathable fabrics that move with the player. These fabrics generally feature moisture-wicking properties and replaced more traditional fabrics like cotton, allowing players to feel comfortable and maintain ease of movement during games.
The Personalisation of Netball Uniforms in 2025
And while in the past, players wore ‘bibs’ or ‘pinnies’ with their position on them, which were worn as a layer over their top, most players these days have their position attached to their netball uniform using a material like velcro. This means players can easily be subbed in and out during the game.
As we look at netball in 2025, it has definitely expanded into a more competitive and commercialised sport. As a result, teams are personalising netball clothing with unique features such as team logos, club colours, and player names. Not only that, but netball clubs offer branded off-court wear so that players can represent their club on the sidelines, during training, and when travelling to games.
How Hip Pocket Workwear & Safety Hunter Supports Teams
This is where Hip Pocket Workwear & Safety Hunter can really step in (but not while holding the ball!). We can provide your team or club with a fully customised netball uniform, including sublimated netball dresses in an endless combination of designs and colours. We also offer off-court wear like tracksuits, training shirts, socks, sporting bags, and more. These can also be sublimated or can be standard pieces that have been customised using our on-site embroidery or heat-press options.
We also know that club members extend beyond the players themselves. We can dress your umpires, volunteers, and admin staff—whoever! These amazing people are often the heart of the club, and we can help them look that way!
Offering Promotional Products for Netball Clubs
Hip Pocket Hunter also has a full range of promotional products available, so players can have water bottles featuring your club logo, or you can sell/supply promo products like caps, beanies, umbrellas, t-shirts, travel mugs, and more to all club members and supporters. Trust me, netball is played in most conditions, and those of us who have attended games at somewhere like Charlestown netball courts know you truly can experience four seasons in one day when you’re watching from the sidelines!

And for the record, I was a WA or GS as a child, but these days, I simply cheer from the comfort of a sideline camp chair!!
